June Q&A Summary: SECURITY CAMERAS
With the warmer days, there has been an increase in car break-ins lately. The best way to secure your car(s) and property is to install a home security system.
Where to Place Outdoor Security Cameras
To be alerted to car break-ins, the most practical location would be near where your car is parked, for instance, over the garage, or at the front door. A front door camera can also help deter home break-ins.
HERE ARE SOME HELPFUL/INTERESTING FACTS:
An estimated 34% of all burglars enter your home through the front door.
An estimated 22% of burglars enter through the back door.
An estimated 23% of burglars enter through a first floor window.
Another access point is basement stair. Most basements are accessible through small windows that are large enough for a person to enter.
These are all prime locations to include security cameras.
How the Motion Sensor in a Security Camera Works:
The sensor in the security camera sends out an infrared beam which measures the temperature of the opposite wall or structure in the building. When an object, be it a human, or an animal, passes through the infrared beam, the detector measures the temperature of the object. If the temperature of the object is higher than the wall opposite it, an algorithm in the sensor detects the difference in temperature between the two, and, if within the threshold limit of the sensor, sends the detector into alarm. This is basically a version of Doppler radar.
Activity Notifications:
You can monitor your system's footage at any time from your smart phone. In addition, you can set up your system so that you receive alerts and clips when motion detected. It can also be programmed to send instant video clips from home of what matters most to you...from alarm activity to your children coming home from school, to a package being delivered.
How Who Can View Security Camera Footage?
Bentley Electronic Systems usually recommends security systems that are self-monitoring, meaning you are not paying a company with employees to watch your camera footage. Of course, if you prefer a monitored system, we can suggest one that will best fit your needs.
