April Q&A Summary: SMART HOME AUTOMATION

Smart Home Automation is a a catch-all phrase for any electronic system in your home that can be managed from a single device. Often this includes door locks, security cameras, heating/cooling systems, lighting, wifi, audio and video devices and shades/blinds. Appliances are also increasingly being included in these options.

The big advantage to establishing Smart Home Automation, as opposed to having multiple controllers or apps for each device, is that an automation system takes all of the individual apps for lighting, climate, audio, cameras, etc. and incorporates them all into a SINGLE app. Instead of having multiple apps just one app will cover them all.

SO, no more hunting for all of your controllers - they are now all in one place. You have the option of controlling ALL of your smart home devices (lighting, thermostat, security systems, blinds, smart appliances, and more!) in a few different ways:

ACCESS YOUR SMART HOME SYSTEM HOWEVER YOU LIKE!

  • From your phone or tablet

  • From a wall touchscreen

  • From a handheld remote

  • From ANY smart phone or tablet!

  • OR CHOOSE ALL THREE!

Speaking of power, what is a UPS and why do I need one? UPS stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply. Should you lose power, the UPS will automatically switch over to continue to power your critical equipment, such as:

Modems, routers, switches, etc.

UPS have internal batteries which need to be replaced every 5 years or so. The UPS is sold according to their run time. (Run time is exactly what it sounds like - it is the length of time that the UPS will continue to power your system. If you need longer run time, you need batteries with a larger storage capability.
